Class Description

Grade Range: 7th-12th Grade Dates: September 18 – December 11 (no class on 11/26, 12/18 make up day in the event of a teacher absence) Time: 10AM-12PM Required Lab - Mondays 9:00 AM-10:30 AM (lab dates: 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14 Fee: $650 Class Description: This chemistry course is a study of the basic laws of chemistry, covering the basic concepts of the structure and properties of matter and energy. We will explore these concepts through a combination of lecture, demonstrations, readings, and laboratory work. This course serves to prepare students for additional high school and college science courses. Since chemistry is math-based, knowledge of algebra math is required for this course. This course is designed to meet the University of California A – G requirement for laboratory science. The course covers the requirements of the California State Science Standards at a pace geared to college prep students. Maximum class size: 12

Supplies: Textbook: Holt McDougal’s Modern Chemistry, 2012 or newer version (used books can be purchased online at very reasonable price) Scientific calculator Three ring binder (1- inch) with paper, and section dividers. This binder will be used to file all your work, as well as notes, lab reports, old tests, etc. Keep it up-to-date and have it with you during class/lab sessions Bring your book, binder, calculator, and pen/pencil to each class or online session.
