Beginning Spanish

This course introduces students to the basic language of the Spanish-speaking people. During the classes, students will be able to use simple phrases to identify, understand and ask for situations, people, and places. The target language will be used mainly to satisfy immediate communication needs. Students can introduce themselves and others, ask for and give basic personal information. They also will be able to communicate in an elementary way as long the interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly. Homework: Students will have homework every class. Assignments are expected to be completed and ready for review/correcting at the beginning of each class period. No material required for this class. Semester 1 Primera base - Introduction At the end of this chapter students will be able to: • Introduce yourself and say how you are and where you’re from • Tell your age, your phone number, and the date • Greet people, ask how they are and where they’re from, and say good-bye • Use the Spanish alphabet to spell Chapter 1 At the end of this chapter students will be able to: • Describe yourself and tell about some of your likes and dislikes • Find out what other people are like • Compare you and other people’s likes and dislikes Chapter 2 At the end of this chapter students will be able to: • Describe your class schedule • List some school supplies you use • Find out about someone else’s schedule Semester 2 Chapter 3 At the end of this chapter students will be able to: • Talk about some of your leisure-time activities. • Make plans with friends. • Extend, accept, or decline invitations Chapter 4 At the end of this chapter students will be able to: • Describe what you like and don’t like to eat and drink • Tell when you have meals • Say whether you are hungry or thirsty Chapter 5 At the end of this chapter students will be able to: • Describe family members and friends • Tell what someone’s age • Say what other people like and do not like to do Chapter 6 Describe the color, fit, and price of clothes • Ask about and buy clothes • Tell where and when you bought clothes and how much you paid for them
