Class Description

This class introduces the basics of music through studying the music, culture, instruments, and dance of a different country each week. We start each class with a welcome song where each student gets to introduce themselves to the class. Then we hop on the rhythm train where we learn about how notes can be fast and slow as we travel to the country of the week. Then we listen to a traditional song from the country,  find it on the map, and introduce an instrument popular to its culture. Next, we free dance to a song from the country before sitting down and learning about the food, sports, and population of the country. Now it's time to pull out our crayons and color a picture that has to do with a famous aspect of the country as we listen to more music from that country. After sitting for a bit, it's is time to get up and learn a dance move from the country and then demonstrate it while listening to dance music from the country.  Then we learn a rhythm indicative of that country's music and clap it while we listen to a native song that uses the rhythm. Now it's time to pull out our percussion instrument and play along to one final song. We then hop back on to the rhythm train and travel back home.  Before we sing our closing song, everyone shares their favorite thing they learned about that country.  We say goodbye and look forward a new adventure next week!
