Novel Study: The Watsons Go To Birmingham
This unit is anchored around the novel The Watsons Go To Birmingham—1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. This full-length novel unit is packed with chapter questions, activities, and embedded nonfiction to illuminate the important themes in this wonderful book. In this 6-week class, we will continue to learn the fundamentals of English and Language Arts using a compelling novel that uses the historical background of the American South in 1963 to explore how one family from Flint, Michigan navigates and responds to the tragic consequences of racism and hatred. Join us to consider: How do people respond to and recover from challenges and tragedy?
