Class Description

This class will teach you to “think before you shoot.” We will cover photographic fundamentals such as composition, shutter speed, f/stop, depth of field, and people shots. Night photography, trick photography, outside shots and other stimulating assignments will help you put your learning into practice. At the end of the semester, you will be able to show off your best work by creating a Google slideshow and/or actual coffee table photo book. And, looking ahead as your camera joins you on future trips and events, your thoughtful shots will probably get the most likes on Instagram as compared to your friends’ photos of the same events . . . unless your friends are also in this class.

This class may be considered for elective credit for high school students. Please submit to your charter school for final approval.

*Please note that AdLife classes depend on sufficient enrollment in order to proceed. There is a chance you may be asked to switch to another date or time slot in which this same class is offered.

Additional Information

Class size: 2-10 students

Supplies:

Students will need to have regular access to a digital camera with no fewer than 5 mega pixels. It is HIGHLY recommended that this camera also have a manual setting option (no “dummy-proof” cameras please).

They will also need to be able to upload their photos for screen sharing during class (they are welcome to instead produce physical prints, which they can hold up to their computer’s camera when it comes time to show them). Single Lens Reflex (SLR) digital cameras and tripods are ideal but not mandatory.
