The class will be guided by step-by-step instructions to learn the major structural characteristics to realistically render the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and different types of hair. The basic diagram of a face and slight variations will be covered, while showing the correct placement of each feature. Learn how to correctly render skin by softly building up value, contours, and how to utilize the use of light and dark to render a form. Students will study how value progressions capture the effect of light to create a realistic portrait and will gain an understanding of facial expressions, by using slight and sometimes dramatic adjustments to the face and eyes to achieve an emotional response.
A variety of exercises, worksheets, and a mirror image drawing will be used to reinforce their individual skills.
