Class Description

We are going to learn about the "local" government of the states within the United States of America.

We will cover:

* Brief history of the forming of the USA Government and State Government (including the original Articles of Confederation)

* State Governor and Lieutenant Governor

* State Legislators of both Houses (and Nebraska which only has one house)

* Secretary of State and State Judges

We will talk about the more obvious powers the various positions have, the less obvious powers they have, as well as any relevant history.

I will attempt to relate this to the states the learners are in (will ask for states, with emphasis on not wanting to know any closer than that) so they can find out about things directly affecting them. I prefer to have discussion during the class and will encourage learners to participate.

For any learners interested in working in government we will discuss what they might be interested in. For those not interested in becoming members of government, there will be examples of how their everyday lives are affected by the things these people do. Discussing how voting is part of their roll to make sure that things are improving the way they want to will also be included.

We will learn through original PowerPoint presentations and discussion questions. There may be occasional youtube clips included as well, depending on time and amount of discussion.
