Claudia Landeros

My strong belief in teaching our children and youth to become good citizens drives me to be a better teacher and set the example, and the best way I found to do it is sharing the Spanish language and my Hispanic culture.

About Me

Psychologist, Spanish teacher, tutor, and dance instructor. I started my teaching career in the dance field. In fact, my main goal was to become a professional dance instructor. However, I decided to pursue another career to let me understand human behavior. I emigrated from México 12 years ago, and it was in this country, The United States, where I discovered the incredible opportunity to combine dance with Spanish based on child development and on a child’s particular expressions. I earned a B.A. in psychology and an M.A in Applied Linguistics to teach Spanish as a Second Language. I worked as a preschool teacher’s assistant for around 2 years, and I also worked as a grammar teacher and elementary instructor—teaching adults how to read and write in México. I’ve been fortunate to find positions here, in the U.S.A., that allow me to continue working with children. I’ve been able to apply my experience in working with children to help them succeed in a tough learning environment and maximize my formal education in psychology and Linguistics towards something I enjoy doing—teaching Spanish. I am a current student at CSU-LA pursuing a second B.A. in Hispanic Literature and Linguistics. I am the founder and director of “Friendship Camp” (Non-Profit organization) in Zacatecas, México. We work with underprivileged children in rural communities to bring them a new experience and quality education. I design and implement a full curriculum for summer camp sessions and organize teacher participation, including teachers coming from the U.S., and coordinate with the state’s department of education participation in the program.

Testimonials

I have greatly improved my abilities is Spanish since I started classes with Claudia. I have a better understanding of Spanish grammar and a better understanding of more difficult concepts like the subjunctive. My vocabulary has greatly increased as well. I think my biggest improvement has been in my comprehension. I can understand what a native Spanish speaker is saying a lot easier than I could before I started classes with Claudia. I can easily say I am much more confident now in my ability to hold a conversation in Spanish than I was before. I can now talk to Spanish-speaking coworkers, friends, and people I meet both here and when I travel abroad!

I wish my school Spanish teacher is as good as Ms. Claudia. She is always prepared and explains very thoroughly. Her material makes learning easy and she is always very engaged. The only feedback is sometimes she speaks too fast, but that’s with any native speaker teacher. We have always enjoyed working with Ms. Claudia. She is very professional and capable teacher.
